President Barzani Strongly Condemns Attack on Kurdistan Region

On Tuesday, President Masoud Barzani strongly condemned this morning’s Iranian ballistic missile attack on the Kurdistan Region, in which six Peshmerga soldiers were killed and 30 injured.

“I extend my condolences and sympathy to the families of the martyrs of this unjust attack, share in their grief, and wish a speedy recovery to the wounded,” President Barzani said.

“This was a hostile attack and has no justification. It is yet another time that such assaults are carried out against the Kurdistan Region without regard for the principles of good neighborliness and international law. This comes at a time when the Kurdistan Region has not been a party to the current conflict in the region and has never posed a threat to its neighbors.”

Earlier on Tuesday, Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani condemned "the hostile and traitorous attack on Peshmerga bases last night.

“I offer my condolences to the proud families of the martyrs and wish for recovery for the injured. We will take all measures to counter this hostility ... I call on the federal government and the international community to put an end to these attacks on the Kurdistan Region.”

Also on Tuesday, Turkey’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan called Prime Minister Barzani and conveyed his country’s condolences and sympathies to the families of the victims, and wished the wounded a speedy recovery.
