Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Saturday spoke with Kuwait’s Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah al-Ahmad al-Sabah and expressed concern over the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
The KRG readout said they discussed the situation in the region, particularly in Kuwait, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region, as well as the latest escalations. Both leaders expressed deep concern over the intensifying destruction and turmoil.
They also stressed the need to strengthen bilateral cooperation and coordination to help de-escalate the crisis and to safeguard peace, security, and stability in the region.
Since February 28, there have been several attacks on U.S. bases and diplomatic missions in the Kurdistan Region. Furthermore, there have been many attacks on members of Iranian Kurdish opposition parties, as well as an attack targeting an oil field and two attacks on Peshmerga forces.
Kuwait’s Ministry of Defense announced on Saturday that Kuwait’s defense systems have successfully detected and engaged 14 ballistic missiles and 23 drones in the past 48 hours.
