Kurds’ Rights Should be Guaranteed in Syria’s Future: President Barzani

During a meeting with U.S. Special Envoy to Syria Tom Barrack, President Masoud Barzani thanked the United States for its role in helping the Syrian parties to resolve ongoing issues and stressed that the rights of the Kurdish people should be guaranteed in the future of Syria.


The meeting also addressed the situation in Syria and recent field developments, emphasizing that resolving the issues requires dialogue, understanding, and a peaceful approach.


During the meeting, which was also attended by Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, Ambassador Barrack conveyed the greetings and respect of President Donald Trump to President Barzani, and acknowledged the role of President Barzani in promoting peace and resolving conflict in Syria.


The meeting came amid heavy fighting between Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Syrian government forces after a withdrawal agreement failed in eastern Aleppo.In a separate meeting, Prime Minister Barzani met with Ambassador Barrack in Pirmam.


The discussion focused on the general situation in the region, relations between the Kurdistan Region, the federal government, and neighboring countries, as well as efforts to peacefully resolve issues and protect and uphold the constitutional rights of the Kurdistan Region.


Later in the day, President Barzani held a meeting attended by Ambassador Barrack; Mazloum Abdi, Commander-in-Chief of the SDF; and Mohammed Ismail, Head of the Kurdish National Council in Syria; among others. 


The meeting was aimed at achieving peace and preventing the continuation of violence in Syria. In the meeting, President Barzani stressed the necessity of dialogue, stability, and coexistence in a new Syria.
