Kurdish Leaders Mark Kurdistan Flag Day in Erbil

President Masoud Barzani issued a message on Kurdistan Flag Day, emphasizing the symbolic and national significance of the Kurdistan flag for the Kurdish people.

“The Kurdistan flag is a sacred emblem and symbol of our people, and it carries the message, dreams, and aspirations of all Kurdistanis,” President Barzani said in his message. He concluded by congratulating all Kurdistanis on the occasion of Flag Day.

Meanwhile, a special ceremony marking Kurdistan Flag Day was held on Wednesday, December 17, at the Erbil Citadel, in the presence of Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani. The event was attended by representatives and prominent figures from the religious and national components of the Kurdistan Region.

In his speech, Prime Minister Barzani commemorated the occasion of Kurdistan Flag Day and reaffirmed that the Kurdistan flag represents the identity of the Kurdish people. 

He described the flag as a symbol of resistance and the countless sacrifices made by the people of Kurdistan, as well as a symbol of peace, reconstruction, coexistence, continuity of life, strength, and resilience.

“Many times, our flag has been the shroud of thousands of Kurdistani martyrs. It is the duty of all of us to keep our sacred flag raised high. Happy Kurdistan Flag Day,” Prime Minister Barzani posted on X.

In 2009, the Kurdistan Region Parliament officially designated December 17 as Kurdistan Flag Day, a day dedicated to renewing and replacing the flags flying above the region’s institutions.
