Several Western diplomatic missions on Thursday condemned the attack on the Khor Mor gas field in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

During a call with Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, Joshua Harris, Charge d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Iraq, strongly condemned the attack on the Khor Mor gas field and reaffirmed the United States’ support for the Kurdistan Region.

According to a KRG readout, both officials agreed on the need to strengthen the Kurdistan Region’s defensive measures against such attacks, and stressed that those behind these terrorist acts must be exposed and brought to justice.

Furthermore, U.S. Special Envoy to Iraq Mark Savaya said in a post on X that “armed groups operating illegally and driven by hostile foreign agendas carried out an attack yesterday on the Khor Mor gas field. Every illegal armed group and supporter will be tracked, confronted, and held accountable.

“The Government of Iraq must identify those responsible for this assault and bring them to justice.”

He also underlined that the “United States supports a strong Kurdistan within a united and stable Iraq.”

In a post on X, the UK’s Ambassador to Iraq Irfan Siddiq also condemned the attack on Khor Mor.

“Attacks on vital infrastructure threaten Iraq’s stability and the safety of its people. The UK stands with its Iraqi partners and supports efforts to protect critical facilities. We urge that those responsible for this attack be held accountable,” he underlined.

Furthermore, Patrick Durel, France’s Ambassador to Iraq, also strongly condemned the attack. “Energy infrastructure benefits the entire population.”

“France reaffirms its commitment to the security of Iraq as a whole, and of the Kurdistan Region within it,” he concluded.

The Embassy and Consulate General of the Netherlands in Erbil reaffirmed a statement of the EU delegation to Iraq, which condemned the attack “against civilian energy infrastructure, which affects citizens across the country.

“We reiterate our commitment to continue to cooperate closely with the Iraqi federal government and the KRG towards security, stability, and reforms to the benefit of Iraq and the region,” the EU said.
