The U.S. Department of State on Tuesday confirmed that Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources Michael Rigas will soon travel to the Kurdistan Region to open the new U.S. Consulate General in Erbil.
During his visit to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, Deputy Secretary Rigas will also meet with Iraqi officials and tour U.S. diplomatic facilities.

In August, Wendy Green, the new U.S. Consul General in Erbil, said she looked forward to opening the new U.S. Consulate General in Erbil.
“The new consulate is not just a building, but a testament to the strength of our partnership and the importance of the U.S. relationship with the Kurdistan Region,” she said.
The $800-million U.S. Consulate in Erbil will be the largest U.S. consulate in the world.
On May 12, Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani visited the new building.
