On Wednesday, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani discussed strengthening the economic ties between the Kurdistan Region and Italy with Italy’s Ambassador to Iraq Niccolo Fontana.

In a post on X, Italy’s Consulate General in Erbil said the two officials held a productive and friendly meeting focused on “the business opportunities for the Italian companies in the Kurdistan Region, the upcoming elections in Iraq, and the regional government formation.”

According to a KRG readout, they discussed strengthening bilateral relations between the Kurdistan Region and Italy, particularly regarding cooperation in the agriculture and tourism sectors.
Furthermore, they also discussed developments in Iraq’s political landscape and preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Italy and Kurdistan have strong relations in different fields, including cultural ties, archeology, and military relations, with Italy participating in the anti-ISIS coalition.
