On Friday, the Kurdistani Diaspora Center (KDC) announced that the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Education (MOE) will launch a fourth online course for Kurds living abroad.
“This course was developed to provide Kurdish language classes for students of Kurdish heritage who are residing abroad,” Saman Siwaily, spokesperson for the KRG’s MOE, told Kurdistan Chronicle.
“We recognize that within their mainstream education system, the language of instruction is the official language of their host country. Therefore, to support and preserve their mother tongue, the MOE has established this program.”
The course offers online lessons in Kurdish reading and writing, delivered by qualified Kurdish language teachers. Classes are held once a week, on Sundays.
The first courses were launched in 2022 by the MOE in coordination with the KDC.
In total, between 2022 and mid-2025, three courses were held with the participation of 1,000 citizens from various countries around the world, who received official certificates from the MOE upon their successful completion of the program.
The MOE is preparing to launch the fourth course on October 1, 2025. The KCD said that the lessons will be taught by qualified teachers of the Kurdish language in its three dialects: Sorani, Bahdini, and Kurmanji. Students can register for the course online.
“The MOE calls on all Kurds in the diaspora to take advantage of this educational and national opportunity by registering their children at all levels and ages, emphasizing the importance of learning the sweet mother tongue – the Kurdish language – as a duty in preserving our national identity,” the KCD said.
Founded in September 2023, the KDC was established to preserve Kurdish identity and strengthen ties between Kurds in the diaspora and Kurdistan, with centers in Europe and the United States.
On July 23, 2025, the Nashville Kurdistani Diaspora Center in the United States hosted its first-ever Kurdish Class Certificate Ceremony, in which KRG Minister of Education Alan Hama Saeed Salih praised the students’ achievements.
