Kurdish Officials Meet with Belgian Officials, Defense Minister

A delegation from the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) led by former Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs Hoshyar Zebari visited the Belgian Federal Parliament this week. The delegation also met with Belgium’s Minister of Defense and Foreign Trade Theo Francken and participated in the annual Congress of the International Democracy Union (IDU) in Brussels.

Delavar Ajgeiy, the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Representative to the EU, stated in a post on Facebook that the KDP delegation visited Brussels upon the official invitation of the IDU and held several important meetings as part of their participation in the IDU’s activities.
“Great discussions today with the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iraq Hoshyar Zebari, and a Kurdish Region delegation, on regional security challenges,” Belgium’s Defense Minister Francken posted on X.

“Constructive exchanges that highlight the importance of diplomacy and cooperation in addressing key security issues in the Middle East.”

In response, KDP Political Bureau Member Hemin Hawrami thanked Minister Francken for their meeting and added that they “are looking forward to enhancing our bilateral relations on a range of issues.”

The KDP delegation also had a meeting with Belgium’s Federal Parliament President Peter De Roov.

“(We) exchanged views on latest developments in the region and reiterated our shared vision for further cooperation in our bilateral relations,” Hawrami posted on X.
