To mark the occasion of the Christian holiday of Easter, President Masoud Barzani on Saturday extended his warm “congratulations and blessings to my Christian brothers and sisters in Kurdistan, Iraq, and the world.”
“On this occasion, we emphasize the culture of coexistence, brotherhood, and harmony among all religious and ethnic groups in Kurdistan. Coexistence and tolerance are a source of great pride for the people of Kurdistan and must be protected and enriched,” he underlined.

Moreover, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani also wished a “Happy Easter to all our Christian brothers and sisters” on X.

In a statement on X, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani wrote to “warmly and heartily congratulate all our Christian citizens in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, as well as all Christians around the world.”

Some estimates suggest that there is a population of around 150,000 Christians in the Kurdistan Region, making it one of the biggest Christian communities remaining in Iraq.
Furthermore, the Archbishop of Erbil Bashar Matti Warda underlined that the KRG leadership has consistently shown its public solidarity with the Christian population.
The Kurdistan Region hosts thousands of Christians displaced persons from other parts of Iraq that fled during the rise of ISIS in 2014.
