On Monday, April 14, 2025, a joint delegation from the UK Parliament and the European Parliament visited the Kurdistan Region.

During their visit, they met President Masoud Barzani, who warmly welcomed the delegation.

According to a readout from the Barzani Headquarters, the delegation expressed their admiration for the spirit of religious and ethnic coexistence in the region and reaffirmed their messages of friendship, solidarity, and support for the Kurdish people’s cause.

President Barzani also highlighted the initiatives and progress made in the peace process in Turkiye, emphasizing that as long as there is an opportunity for peace and the door to peaceful solutions remains open, no party should resort to violence or war.

The delegation was also welcomed by Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, who expressed gratitude for the long-standing support from the UK and other European countries to the Kurdistan Region and highlighted the KRG’s reforms in the energy, banking, and digitalization of the public sectors. They also discussed the situation in Iraq and the region.

According to the KRG readout, the delegation commended the progress and prosperity of Erbil and the Kurdistan Region and paid tribute to the valor of the peshmerga forces in countering terrorism.

They noted that the Kurdistan Region has become a beacon of freedom, democracy, and peaceful coexistence among all its components. They reaffirmed their countries’ commitment to strengthening relations with the Kurdistan Region.
