Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Minister of Interior Reber Ahmed arrived in the UK on Sunday to participate in the Border Security Summit, and underlined the KRG’s commitment to confronting human trafficking.
“In London, at the Border Security Summit, we reaffirmed the KRG’s commitment to working with our international partners to secure borders, combat human trafficking, and disrupt criminal networks,” Minister Ahmed posted on X.
The two-day Border Security Summit officially started on Monday, with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer giving the opening speech, followed by the beginning of the summit’s agenda.

The KRG said in a readout that this summit brings together interior and justice ministers, as well as senior border security officials from numerous countries.
On the evening of Sunday, March 30, 2025, a welcoming ceremony was held, attended by UK Home Secretary Yvette Cooper along with several interior and justice ministers from various countries, including Iraq, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, China, and Bulgaria, among others.

In late November, the KRG signed an agreement with the UK and Iraqi federal government to enhance border security and combat human trafficking, a deal aimed at addressing illegal migration to the UK.
The deal was signed during a three-day visit by Secretary Cooper to Baghdad and Erbil in late November 2024. In the Kurdistan Region’s capital, Secretary Cooper met with Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani, KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, and other relevant ministers.
