KRG Values all Languages in Kurdistan Region: PM

On February 21, International Mother Language Day, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani underlined that the KRG is committed to protecting all languages of all the ethnic communities in the Kurdistan Region.

Prime Minister Barzani posted videos on all his social media accounts in the Kurdish, Syriac, and Turkmen languages.

"I congratulate all Kurdistanis on World Mother Language Day. Kurdish is the primary and official language of the Kurdistan Region and, according to the Iraqi Constitution, one of the two official languages of Iraq.

“Therefore, preserving and promoting the Kurdish language is the responsibility of every Kurdistani. In particular, the institutions of the KRG, as well as our cultural, scientific, and academic institutions, must give great importance and attention to the Kurdish language.

“Our language is a fundamental and essential pillar of our existence, identity, and national identity. On this occasion, the KRG reaffirms its commitment to valuing the languages of all ethnic communities in Kurdistan.”

Furthermore, in a post on X Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani emphasized the importance of promoting the Kurdish language and the languages of all communities in Kurdistan.

“Language is a fundamental component of our national identity, homeland, and culture. We must preserve it in every way and give it the necessary attention and importance for its development.”
