Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani held a meeting with Turkiye’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Berris Ekinci on Tuesday, in which they agreed on the need to resume the Kurdistan Region’s oil exports through Turkiye’s Ceyhan port.
This comes after an amendment to the Iraqi federal budget law was passed by the Council of Representatives on February 2, stipulating the cost of extracting and transporting the Kurdistan Region’s oil.
Also on Tuesday, the Official Gazette of Iraq published the amendment to Iraq’s general budget law, paving the way for the resumption of oil exports.
On March 25, 2023, Kurdish crude oil exports through Turkiye were stopped after an international arbitration court ruled in favor of Baghdad against Ankara, halting 450,000 barrels per day of crude oil exports to international markets.

According to the KRG readout, Prime Minister Barzani and Ambassador Ekinci also discussed the Development Road project connecting the Gulf and Iraq to Turkiye and Europe through railways, stressing the importance of the Kurdistan Region’s participation in this strategic project.
Regarding Syria, they addressed developments in the country and emphasized the need to maintain its security and stability and ensure the rights of the Kurdish people and all other components of the country.

During the World Government Summit in Dubai on February 12, Prime Minister Barzani also discussed the resumption of oil exports with Turkiye’s Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Simsek.
