Yezidi organizations have welcomed the verdict against Swedish citizen Lina Ishaq, who on Wednesday was sentenced to 12 years in prison for committing genocide and war crimes against the Yezidis after she joined ISIS.
She was found guilty of holding three Yezidi women and six Yezidi children as slaves in Raqqa between 2014-2016 in September last year.

The Free Yezidi Foundation posted on X that they are “grateful to the prosecution, police, and judges for their work in ensuring atrocities do not go unpunished and combating impunity.”
The Free Yezidi Foundation added that ISIS members everywhere – and especially in Europe – are not safe from prosecution.

“If you have committed crimes against the Yezidi community, Western countries are not a safe haven for war criminals. Male or female, if you have committed those crimes, you will face justice, sooner or later.”
Former Swedish Minister of Foreign Affairs Ann Linde called it a historic verdict in a post on X, hailing the brave Yezidi women who came to Sweden to testify against the ISIS member, who returned to Sweden in 2020.
