On Tuesday, January 28, the U.S. Consul General in the Kurdistan Region Steven Bitner visited Zakho to announce the launch of the English Access program.
While there, he met with the Head of the Autonomous Administration of Zakho Gohdar Shekho, who led him on a tour of the historical and cultural sites in Zakho.

The Autonomous Administration of Zakho said in a statement that during the meeting they emphasized the importance of Zakho as a significant and strategic border city connected with three countries.
Moreover, they underlined that Zakho remains a key hub for trade, tourism, agriculture, art, and culture. “The city serves as a model for coexistence throughout Iraq,” the Autonomous Administration of Zakho said.
“Since the establishment of the Zakho administration, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has provided strong support for advancing and developing the economy in the autonomous border region of Zakho,” it added.

Currently, Zakho is experiencing a phase of accelerated development, with numerous service projects being implemented across various sectors to improve infrastructure and public services, make the city more attractive for tourists, and serve the local population.
