Switzerland’s National Council on Tuesday recognized the attacks on Yezidis carried out by ISIS in August 2014 as genocide.
“This is an important step for the victims, as well as for addressing and preventing the horrific crimes of ISIS,” the Social Democratic Party of Switzerland posted on X.

With 105 votes to 61, the National Council voted for the recognition on the recommendation of the Foreign Affairs Committee.
The Swiss Foreign Affairs Committee had recognized the genocide in November.

In August 2014, ISIS carried out a genocide against the Yezidis, resulting in the deaths of thousands of people. Almost 10 years later, thousands of Yezidi women and girls are still missing.

The Kurdistan Regional Government designated August 3 as the annual day of remembrance of the Yezidi Genocide in 2019.
So far more than 10 countries – including Australia, Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands – have recognized the genocide.
