Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani on Tuesday issued Regional Decree No. 417 of 2024, regarding the convening of the first session of the sixth term of the Kurdistan Parliament, which will take place on December 2.

President Barzani called on the elected members of Parliament to convene the first session of this term at 11:00 am on Monday, December 2, 2024.

Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission ratified the results of the Kurdistan Parliament’s sixth-term elections on Sunday, with the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) leading with 39 seats, followed by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan with 23, and the New Generation Movement with 15.

Hemin Hawrami, Head of the Organizational Bureau of the KDP, met with U.S. Consul General Steven Bitner on Tuesday in the town of Salahadin, and discussed the “path forward for an orderly and timely cabinet formation based on President Masoud Barzani’s vision of one region, one Parliament, one government, and unified peshmerga forces.

“I reiterated that we do not have a veto on engaging with political parties.”

“Now that the final results have been announced by the IHEC, the KDP delegation will start its official talks with all parties,” Hawrami told Kurdistan Chronicle.

On Friday, November 22, 2024, at the Fifth Middle East Peace and Security Forum, held in Dohuk, President Masoud Barzani thanked the people of Kurdistan Region for the voting turnout.

“They demonstrated their sense of responsibility during a critical time. With a 72% voter turnout, the results of this election clearly reflect the will of the people.

“Now, we hope that all parties will respect the legitimacy bestowed by the people through this election. Moving forward, once the results are formally announced by the commission, discussions among all parties will begin to ensure that the Parliament starts its work promptly and the next steps are taken.

“We hope for your support in achieving a unified Kurdistan with one region, one Parliament, one government, and one peshmerga force.”
