On Sunday, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and President Masoud Barzani, head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), received Qasim al-Araji, Iraq’s National Security Advisor, in separate meetings to discuss ongoing security coordination and challenges.
In the meeting, al-Araji congratulated President Barzani on the success of the election of the sixth term of the Kurdistan Region Parliament that took place on October 20, the Barzani Headquarters said in a readout.
Moreover, the Barzani Headquarters said the officials had discussed political and security developments in Iraq and the region, how to confront the threat of terrorism, and the importance of maintaining security and stability in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
The Prime Minister’s office in a readout said Prime Minister Barzani and al-Araji “discussed the importance of deepening coordination between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government, particularly in the fight against terrorism, and how to build on the shared commitment to protect the stability of both the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.”

It also noted that al-Araji conveyed his congratulations on the successful completion of the elections for the sixth term of the Kurdistan Region Parliament.
Araji in a post on X said that, under the direction of the Commander-in-Chief of Iraq’s Armed Forces, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani, he held “important discussions with KDP leader Masoud Barzani and Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani.
“The talks focused on continuing joint security coordination to enhance stability in Iraq and the region."
