In separate statements on Saturday, the Iraqi and Kurdistan Region presidencies condemned Israel’s Saturday morning attack on Iran.
“We condemn the air strikes targeting Iran this morning. We urge all parties to exercise restraint and make every effort to prevent further escalation of the conflict,” the Kurdistan Region Presidency said.
The Kurdistan Region Presidency warned that the expansion of the war and its repercussions “threaten the stability of the entire region.”
In a separate statement, the Iraqi Presidency strongly condemned “the Zionist military targeting of Iran, a violation of Iranian sovereignty and international laws.
“This hostile action further escalates regional instability, threatening the security and stability of the entire region.”
The Iraqi Presidency called on the international community to take “decisive action” to halt these hostilities and prevent further escalation.
The Iraqi Presidency also said that Iraq remains “committed to ending aggression against Palestine and Lebanon,” and expressed support for the Palestinian “struggle for self-determination and their right to establish an independent state.”
Moreover, the Central Committee of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) in a statement on Saturday underlined that the current escalation of violence should “be resolved through dialogue without the language of threats and the use of force.”
The KDP also urged Iraq to distance itself from these tensions and not get involved, as Iraq’s situation is highly sensitive and involves many challenges.
Israel attacked military targets in Iran with airstrikes Saturday in retaliation for 200 ballistic missiles that Iran fired on Israel on October 1.
