Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Thursday announced that 24-hour electricity will be provided to all of Kurdistan as part of the Runaki – or “light” in Kurdish – project by the end of 2026.
“Today, I visited several homes and businesses and was very pleased that 24-hour national electricity has been provided,” he said during a visit to the Shadi neighborhood in Erbil, where the first pilot stage of the project was implemented.
Here's my promise.

He also added that the second phase and implementation of the project will start in the Naznaz neighborhood and later in the Bakhtiari neighborhood, providing both areas with 24-hour electricity.
“At the same time, in collaboration with Erbil municipality, this service will be provided to all areas, cities, and districts of the Kurdistan Region,” he said.
“Now, several centers in the cities of Sulaymaniyah and Duhok have been designated for the implementation of the project, thus requiring local authorities to cooperate and provide solutions to ensure that this project is implemented in Duhok Governorate and all of Kurdistan.”
For years, despite its substantial oil and gas reserves, the Kurdistan Region has faced frequent power outages. The KRG’s Ninth Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Barzani, has committed to enhancing services throughout the region.
