On September 29, the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Counterterrorism and the Bureau of Diplomatic Security’s Anti-Terrorism Assistance Office handed over explosive ordnance disposal equipment to the Asayish.
The Asayish forces are the primary internal security agency in the Kurdistan Region.

In August, the United States also provided howitzer cannons to the Kurdistan Regional Government Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs’ First and Second Support Forces.
The U.S. Consulate General said at the time that the move marked a significant milestone in building the capacity of the peshmerga forces.
