Dana Gas Restores Full Production in Khor Mor

UAE-based Dana Gas announced on May 8 its results for the first quarter of the year and said its production was fully restored after a drone attack on the Khor Mor gas field on April 26 killed four Yemeni workers.

“Production was fully restored in a matter of days following concrete actions by the federal government of Iraq and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), including firm commitments to significantly enhance security and strengthen defenses at the Khor Mor site,” the company said.

“This incident may potentially impact the completion schedule of the KM250 project,” the company continued, referring to its planned Khor Mor 250A expansion project. “The Company continues to monitor the situation and will provide further updates to the market in due course,” it added.

The company also said that for the first quarter of 2024, Dana Gas generated revenue of 356 million UAE dirhams ($97 million) and net profit of 139 million UAE dirhams ($38 million).

“It saddens me greatly to report the tragic fatalities and injuries following an incident at our Khor Mor field. We express our deepest condolences to the families,”  Richard Hall, CEO of Dana Gas, said following the attack. “The gas plant was temporarily taken offline as we sought commitments for additional security measures from the governmental authorities before fully restoring production.”

“Prior to the incident, we realized profits during the quarter despite lower condensate prices and reduced output from Egypt. In the Kurdistan Region we posted strong production numbers as our plant continues to produce above the 500 million standard cubic feet per day level it had reached at the end of last year. We have also made significant progress in improving our receivables in the Kurdistan Region as a result of the new payment mechanism registered last year, which continues to operate seamlessly.”

Several Western and Arab Gulf countries condemned the attack on Khor Mor.

After the attack, KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani urged Baghdad to “credibly investigate, hold the perpetrators accountable, and provide lasting assurances to our people. According to the initial information the attacks came from a nearby region within Iraq.”

In addition, he said the KRG expects “swift action from Baghdad to not allow these terrorists to menace us at will. It must control the lawless groups that harm us all.”
