ERBIL (Kurdistan Chronicle) — Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has expressed disappointment at Iraq’s Supreme Federal Court for being exploited to jeopardize “every agreement” reached with Baghdad, according to a statement.

The comments were made during a weekly meeting of the Council of Ministers chaired by the prime minister on Wednesday to discuss a range of issues, including relations between the federal and regional governments, pending disputes, and future negotiation plans.

“The Prime Minister expressed Kurdistan’s readiness for resolving pending issues with Baghdad within the framework of constitution and added that KRG and the Kurdistan Region’s delegation have played their role to reach an agreement and that they await Baghdad to implement the agreements,” reads the statement by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

The Kurdish prime minister hoped that Baghdad would immediately fulfill its obligations under the 2023 agreement to send Erbil’s share from the federal budget.

According to the agreement, Baghdad is required to send 200 billion dinars (approximately $125 million) monthly to the Kurdistan Region, mainly for salary payments of government employees.

The new government of Iraq recently approved the payment of 400 billion dinars to the Kurdistan Regional Government for the last two months of 2022. However, the payment has been blocked by a Federal Court’s recent ruling which believes it violates the Budget Law of 2021.
