Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Representative to the United States Treefa Aziz met with the newly appointed U.S. Consul General in Erbil Wendy Green to bolster cooperation between KRG and the United States. “The meeting offered an opportunity to introduce Consul General Green to our ongoing work with U.S. partners and the U.S. Department of State to discuss ways to deepen cooperation across economic, cultural, and community engagement initiatives,” the KRG Representation in the United States stated in a post on LinkedIn. This collaboration underscores the shared commitment of the United States and the Kurdistan Region to advance stability, prosperity, and people-to-people connections in the Middle East.

The KRG recently welcomed a delegation from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, led by Steve Lutes, Executive Director of Middle East Affairs, which included representatives of 30 U.S. companies. This visit emphasizes the KRG’s commitment to enhancing trade relations and expanding investment opportunities in the region. “This is an important visit as U.S. companies are being certified by the government, indicating the strong relationship between the United States and the KRG.” Representative Aziz told Kurdistan Chronicle.

Steve Lutes highlighted the significance of this delegation to Kurdistan Chronicle. “This time, the delegation covers various sectors beyond agriculture, focusing on broader economic opportunities.” He added that the U.S. Department of Commerce’s involvement marks a historic moment for the region, providing official endorsement for the trade delegation.

On September 9, the delegation met with Prime Minister Masrour Barzani. According to a statement from KRG, Prime Minister Barzani welcomed the delegation and expressed his gratitude for the cooperation and support of the United States. He highlighted the KRG’s reforms in economic diversification, particularly in energy, agriculture, banking, and digitalization of public services, noting the success of both the MyAccount and Runaki projects.
Prime Minister Barzani also reiterated the Kurdistan Region’s readiness to provide all assistance to domestic and foreign investors.

The American Chamber of Commerce in Kurdistan also hosted the delegation. During the event, KRG Minister of Interior Reber Ahmed highlighted the enduring strength of the Kurdistan-U.S. partnership.

It is noteworthy that this visit follows Prime Minister Barzani’s official trip to Washington, D.C., on May 19, 2025, during which the KRG delegation, under Prime Minister Barzani’s leadership, achieved a significant milestone by signing two multi-billion-dollar agreements with U.S. energy firms HKN Energy and WesternZagros Resources. During the visit, Prime Minister Barzani held over 20 meetings with U.S. officials, senators, representatives, and members of the Trump administration, including the Secretary of Energy, Secretary of the Interior, and Secretary of State.
