After meeting with President Masoud Barzani at the French Foreign Ministry on Friday, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot hailed him as a historic leader.
Earlier that day, President Barzani and Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo inaugurated the “Peshmerga Path” at Parc Andre Citroen in Paris.
Minister Barrot called this part of “France’s eternal recognition of its Kurdish brothers-in-arms in the fight against ISIS.”
After the ceremony, President Barzani was hosted at the French Foreign Ministry.

“With Masoud Barzani, their historic leader, we discussed strengthening the ties between France, Iraq, and Kurdistan, for the benefit of the region’s stability," Minister Barrot added.
According to the readout of the Barzani Headquarters, both sides discussed the historical ties and friendship between the peoples of Kurdistan and France, with a focus on further strengthening bilateral relations.
Furthermore, the upcoming visit of France’s President Emmanuel Macron to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, scheduled for later this year, was also highlighted.
The discussions addressed relations between Erbil and Baghdad, the importance of adherence to the Iraqi Constitution, and the need to resolve outstanding issues.
Another part of the meeting focused on the threat of terrorism and the necessity of coordination between all parties to confront it.
Minister Barrot reaffirmed his country’s continued support for the Kurdistan Region.
