Kurdistan Foundation Launches New Youth Project

The Kurdistan Foundation on Tuesday launched the Ganjina Project in celebration of International Youth Day, a new initiative that documents and celebrates the inspiring stories of young changemakers across the Kurdistan Region.

The project aims to support youth leaders shaping the future of Kurdistan through environmental activism, innovation, entrepreneurship, arts, sports, or volunteer work.

“Too often, their efforts go unnoticed. Ganjina is a recognition for the impact our Kurdish youth are making. It is a tribute, a digital archive that will honor the outstanding contributions of young people aged 15 to 35 who are making a meaningful impact in their communities,” the Kurdistan Foundation said in a press release.

“This archive is more than a project, it’s a promise to remember, recognize, and raise the voices of a generation that refuses to wait its turn to lead, and are inspiring generations to come,” said Yara Barzanji, Director of Programs and Partnerships at the Kurdistan Foundation.

The initial launch features 50 youth from across the region, selected for their courage, innovation, and commitment to positive change.

Their stories will be available through a public online platform, launched August 12, 2025, with categories ranging from leadership and activism to health, education, art, and technology.

The selection process was rooted in community involvement; youth were nominated by nongovernmental organizations, schools, and local leaders, and reviewed by a committee of experts and youth representatives.

“Ganjina aims not only to highlight these voices, but also to connect them to future opportunities, funding, and platforms to grow. It is the first step in building a sustainable, national system of youth recognition, one that celebrates diversity, resilience, and ambition,” the Kurdistan Foundation concluded.
