Riham H, a survivor of the Yezidi Genocide who was kidnapped at the age of 9, returned to her home in Sinjar following over 11 years in captivity, after she was found in Syria.
“She returns today to the embrace of her family after 11 years in captivity — to the arms of wounded Sinjar, which still bleeds from the wounds of genocide,”said Vian Dakhil, a Yezidi activist and the spokesperson for the Kurdistan Democratic Party in the Iraqi Parliament.

Last year, U.S. officials estimated there were still 2,600 Yezidis missing following the August 2014 Yezidi Genocide.
Officials from the Kurdistan Regional Government have promised to continue rescue efforts until all missing Yezidis are found.

In August 2014, ISIS carried out a genocide against the Yezidis, resulting in the deaths of thousands of people. Almost ten years later, thousands of Yezidi women and girls are still missing.
