Drone Hits Norwegian Oil Company For Second Time

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Directorate General of Counter Terrorism (CTD) announced that two new drone attacks occurred in the Kurdistan Region on Thursday, including one on the oil field in Tawke operated by Norwegian oil company DNO.

The CTD said that no casualties or material damage were reported at Tawke field, located in the Zakho Independent Administration.

The same field was also attacked on July 16 amid a wave of drone attacks on Kurdish oil fields that began on July 14.

On July 16, DNO said that operations at Tawke field were “temporarily suspended following three explosions early this morning.”

The company said there were no injuries in the July 16 attack, but expected to restart production after a damage assessment.

U.S. Department of State Spokesperson Tammy Bruce in a statement on Thursday strongly condemned the drone attacks carried out on oil facilities in the Kurdistan Region since July 14.

“These attacks imperil Iraq’s stability and economic future. The government of Iraq has a duty to protect its territory and all of its citizens,” she said.

“These strikes target international companies that are working with Iraq to invest in Iraq’s future.”

The KRG has blamed militias for the attacks.

On Wednesday, Aziz Ahmed, Deputy Chief of Staff to KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, blamed “criminal militias on the Iraqi government payroll” for the attacks.

We know exactly who’s behind these attacks and where they’re coming from.”
