Oil fields operated by Norwegian company DNO and the U.S. company Hunt Oil were attacked on Wednesday morning by drone strikes.
The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Ministry of Natural Resources on Wednesday in a statement said that a series of drone attacks targeted the Tawke and Ain Sifni oil fields, located within the Zakho and Shekhan districts of Duhok Governorate, adding that the attacks caused significant damage to critical oil infrastructure.
“The Ministry of Natural Resources strongly condemns and denounces these cowardly acts of terrorism, which deliberately target the economic lifelines of the Kurdistan Region and threaten the safety of its civilian workforce,” the Ministry said.
Moreover, the KRG called upon “all relevant authorities in the federal government and international partners to take immediate and decisive action to prevent further attacks on Kurdistan’s vital economic infrastructure and to ensure the protection of innocent lives.”
DNO said that operations at Tawke field were “temporarily suspended following three explosions early this morning, one involving a small storage tank at Tawke and the other involving surface processing equipment at Peshkabir.
“There have been no injuries. The damage assessment is underway and the Company expects to restart production once the assessment is completed.”
The KRG’s Directorate General of Counter Terrorism said that, on Wednesday at 7:14 am, a drone targeted the Hunt oil field in Baadre in the Shekhan district of Duhok.
Moreover, it said in a separate statement that, between 6:00 and 6:15 am, two bomb-laden drones targeted the DNO oil field in Peshkhabir, within the Zakho Autonomous Administration.
Additionally, at 7:00 a.m., another bomb-laden drone targeted the DNO oil field in Tawke, also within the Zakho Autonomous Administration.
No group or organization has claimed responsibility for the attacks. However, non-state militia groups are suspected to have carried out the drone strikes.
There has been an increase in drone attacks in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region since the 12-day war between Israel and Iran. So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
On July 14 and July 15, drone attacks were carried out on critical oil infrastructure at the Khurmala and Sarsang oil fields in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region.

Iraq has promised to investigate the attacks.
