The UN in Iraq on Tuesday strongly condemned an explosion that targeted a camp for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Duhok Governorate earlier that day.
“The UN in Iraq calls for the protection of, and refraining from targeting, displacement camps – including the Darkar camp for Yazidi IDPs,” the UN mission in Iraq posted on X.
“It calls on the relevant authorities in Iraq to investigate the incident and to take the necessary and urgent measures to prevent the recurrence of such attacks, repair the damage, and to hold accountable those responsible for the attack, which is in clear violation of international law and human rights.

The Kurdistan Region Directorate General of Counter Terrorism in a post on Facebook said that at 12:30 am on Tuesday morning, July 1, 2025, a bomb-laden drone crashed into the Darkar camp within the boundaries of the Darkar subdistrict, which is under the administration of the Zakho Autonomous Region.
“Fortunately, aside from material damage, no casualties were reported,” it said.
At the same time, the Kirkuk Airport was targeted with three projectiles, and a drone was shot down near the Baiji oil refinery. So far, it is unclear who carried out the attacks, and no group has claimed responsibility.
