Isaac Tutumlu, a Spanish driver of Kurdish heritage, is set to return to racing on May 16 with a CSA Racing-run McLaren 720S GT3 Evo for the 2025 GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup starting in Zandvoort in the Netherlands.
The Kurdistan Racing Team, which includes Frenchman Arthur Rougier, will compete for the title in the Bronze Cup category at the circuits of Zandvoort (May 16-18), Misano (July 18-20), Magny-Cours (August 1-3), and Valencia (September 19-21).
“We are racing with McLaren under Kurdistan Racing, and we are very excited about this project,” Tutumlu told Kurdistan Chronicle.
“I want to thank our main sponsors Visit Kurdistan and North Light Holding, and our main goal is to fight for the victory. At the beginning it will be a little bit difficult, because it will be the first time for me with the McLaren. The first race I will participate in is a learning opportunity, but hopefully we’ll take the most points possible and focus on the next races to win the final championship.
“After having driven GT3 machinery from Porsche, Audi, Ferrari, and Lamborghini, I’m really excited to debut with the McLaren 720S GT3 Evo, which is a fantastic race car – especially in this one-hour race format,” he added.
Tutumlu said it will be the first round of eight. Each of the first two rounds includes one race on Saturday and another on Sunday, both one hour long. There will be 41 cars on the track, representing nine different brands.
Last year, his team competed in a Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo 2. In March 2024, Tutumlu announced that his team would not continue racing due to financial difficulties in the Kurdistan Region and a lack of sponsors.
