President Masoud Barzani on Sunday met with the Head of the EU Liaison Office in Erbil Radu Butum, who expressed his support for the establishment of security and stability in the Kurdistan Region.
According to a press readout from the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s (KDP) Foreign Relation Department, the two officials discussed the coordination between EU representatives and both official and non-official institutions in the Kurdistan Region.

Butum also briefed President Barzani on the EU’s vision for the region, emphasizing support for the establishment of security and stability, further progress, economic growth, and the well-being of citizens.
In another aspect of the meeting, views were exchanged on the latest developments in the region, the future of the Kurds in Syria, and the peace process in Turkiye.

The European Council on April 29, 2024, adopted a decision to extend the mandate of the EU Advisory Mission in Iraq (EUAM Iraq) in support of security sector reform until April 30, 2026.
EUAM Iraq is separate from the Delegation of the European Union to Iraq, which is focused on diplomatic engagements rather than security reform. Despite this, they do cooperate on certain levels.
