Japan to Renovate Sulaymaniyah Museum

On March 25, 2025, Japan’s Ambassador to Iraq Akira Endo and Iraq’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein signed an agreement for the renovation of the Sulaymaniyah Museum.

According to the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Hussein affirmed the importance of the optimal implementation of the project in coordination with the relevant authorities to ensure the achievement of the desired goals.

Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said they will spend $770,000 on the renovation, equipment, and restoration of the museum.

The project will be implemented by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in cooperation with the Kurdistan Regional Government Ministry of Municipalities and Tourism.

“Through the project, Japan will provide the necessary equipment for exhibition, conservation, and restoration of cultural heritage in the museum. Provision of such equipment will improve the quality of the museum and positively contribute to protection of cultural heritage and promote education and tourism sector in Iraq including Kurdistan Region,” the JICA said in a post on Facebook.
