Syrian FM Invites Prime Minister Masrour Barzani to Syria

Aziz Ahmad, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Thursday posted on X that Prime Minister Barzani was invited to visit Damascus by Syria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Asaad al-Shaibani on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos.


“I met with FM Asaad [al-]Shaibani at WEF 2025 to address Syria’s future. Ensuring peace, stability, and the protection of the Kurdish people’s rights must be priorities. The KRG stands ready to support meaningful solutions,” Prime Minister Barzani posted on X.


Deputy Chief of Staff Ahmad added that both sides agreed to stay in direct contact, including on ways to support Syria’s new political process transitional phase.

Moreover, al-Shaibani said the rights of the Kurdish people will be protected in the new Syria and praised Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani’s efforts.

On Monday, January 20, Prime Minister Barzani arrived in Switzerland to participate in the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2025, held in Davos-Klosters from January 20-24, where he inaugurated the Kurdistan House in Davos and met with senior officials.


On Thursday, Prime Minister Barzani met with France’s Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, where he thanked France for their “unwavering support for the Kurdistan Region.

“We discussed ways to strengthen our ties, promote regional stability, and protect the Kurdistan Region’s constitutional rights.”


He also met with the Prime Minister of Croatia, Andrej Plenkovic, and “exchanged views on developments in Iraq and the region and expressed mutual desire in strengthening our bilateral relations, particularly in economy and investment. https://x.com/masrourbarzani/status/1882473159095648368

“We leave WEF25 with stronger ties and new opportunities for Kurdistan’s future,” Prime Minister Barzani concluded.
