Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met with Italy’s Deputy Ambassador to Iraq Chiara Franchini on Thursday to discuss strengthening ties between Italy and the Kurdistan Region.
According to a readout from the KRG, the meeting focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation, particularly in the areas of economy and trade, as well as addressing the broader situation in Iraq and the region.

Moreover, they also highlighted the importance of resolving disputes between the Kurdistan Region and Iraq’s federal government, emphasizing respect for the constitutional rights of the people of Kurdistan.
Ambassador Franchini also met with the KRG Department of Foreign Relations Head Safeen Dizayee and discussed bilateral relations.

Italy and the Kurdistan Region enjoy strong bilateral ties. Italy has promoted and supported Italian culinary, cultural, and archeological projects in Kurdistan, while also supporting the peshmerga reform program and training peshmerga forces.
