In response to the tragic crash of an Azerbaijani Airline flight near Aktau, Kazakhstan, leaders from the Kurdistan Region have expressed their sorrow and solidarity with those affected.
Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani took to social media platform X to share his condolences, stating, “I’m deeply saddened by the tragic crash of the Azerbaijani aircraft in Kazakhstan. My thoughts and prayers are with those affected by this disaster. The Kurdistan Region stands in solidarity with Azerbaijan during this difficult time.”

Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani also expressed his sadness, saying, “I’m deeply saddened by the tragic Baku-Grozny plane crash. My thoughts are with the victims and their families at this difficult time.”
The crash occurred on Wednesday when an Embraer 190 aircraft carrying 67 people attempted an emergency landing 3 kilometers from Aktau after changing its route due to worsening weather conditions. Kazakhstan’sDeputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbaev confirmed that the incident resulted in 38 fatalities and 29 survivors.
Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev commented in a news conference that it was too early to ascertain the exact cause of the crash, but he confirmed that adverse weather conditions forced the plane to divert from its original path.
