On Tuesday, December 17, 2024, a special ceremony hosted by Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani was held at Erbil Castle to celebrate the annual Kurdistan Flag Day.
At the ceremony, which was attended by a number of religious and ethnic representatives from the Kurdistan Region, Prime Minister Barzani delivered a speech in which he congratulated the people of Kurdistan and the peshmerga forces and their families on Kurdistan Flag Day.

“Our flag embodies our nation’s struggle and sacrifices. Our flag and our history are a testament to our nation’s strong will. No enemy has ever been able to break the resolve of our nation and our flag has always been waved with pride. I wish all Kurdistanis a happy flag day,” he stated.
Prime Minister Barzani also underlined that all Kurdish political forces must set aside their differences and stand together in protecting the homeland, facing any challenges and changes that may arise in the Middle East.
He also emphasized the importance of establishing a strong and comprehensive government to be prepared for future changes and continue serving the best interests of the people of Kurdistan.

President Masoud Barzani in a post on X also underlined that “the Kurdistan flag represents the message of peace, unity, self-determination, and the sacrifices of the Kurdish people. May Flag Day be celebrated by all the beloved people of Kurdistan.”

Furthermore, a ceremony led by President Nechirvan Barzani was held at the Kurdistan Region Presidency.
“Our flag, with its bright colors and radiant beauty, carries the message of the Kurdistan people’s struggles, their hopes, and their determination to preserve their identity and homeland. It represents unity and cooperation among all Kurds, no matter where they are,” President Nechirvan Barzani underlined.
In 2009, the Kurdistan Parliament officially designated December 17 as Kurdistan Flag Day, a day dedicated to renewing and replacing the flags flying above the region’s institutions.
