Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Sunday welcomed Baroness Emma Nicholson, President of the Iraq-Britain Business Council (IBBC) and a member of the UK House of Lords.

According to a readout of the KRG, the meeting focused on the activities and initiatives of the IBBC, highlighting its role in fostering economic ties between the UK and Iraq.
Additionally, discussions emphasized the importance of strengthening trade and investment relationships between the UK and the Kurdistan Region, with a shared commitment to enhancing mutual development and cooperation.

The IBBC is part of the British Chamber of Commerce Global Business Network and works closely with the Iraqi and Kurdistan federations of chambers of commerce.
Founded in 2009, the IBBC represents prominent international and Iraqi businesses in Iraq and lobbies for trade relations between the UK and Iraq.

On November 22, Prime Minister Barzani also met with UK Ambassador to Iraq Stephen Hitchen, where they discussedthe importance of strengthening bilateral relations and of forming a new KRG cabinet after the October 20 elections.
The Kurdistan Region enjoys strong ties with the UK, including in the fields of trade, migration, and education.
Additionally, UK companies provide quality brands and services within the Kurdistan Region, strengthening this partnership further.
During the MEPS forum in Duhok, Ambassador Hitchen also underlined that investment in education and transportation can transform the Middle East.
According to the website of the UK government, there are a number of opportunities in the Kurdistan Region’s market for UK companies in priority sectors, especially in the private sector.

On September 3, Prime Minister Barzani signed a strategic trade agreement with the UK during a visit of the UK Trade Commissioner for the Middle East and Pakistan Oliver Christian.
“We will leverage UK expertise in healthcare, trade, and technology,” Prime Minister Barzani announced on X at the time.
