Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met with Mohamed Al Hassan, UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq and Head of the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) on Monday.
“They discussed the overall situation in Iraq and the wider region, emphasizing the importance of resolving pending issues between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government based on the constitution,” a KRG readout said.
“They also underscored the important role of UNAMI in maintaining peace and stability in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.”

The UNAMI mission supported the Independent High Electoral Commission during the sixth Kurdistan Region parliamentary election process on October 20.

On July 15, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres appointed Al Hassan as his new UN Special Representative for Iraq, succeeding Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert of the Netherlands.
