In a statement on Tuesday, Farhan Haq, the deputy spokesperson of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, called on Kurdistan Region political actors to form an inclusive government as soon as possible.
In the statement, UN Secretary-General Guterres congratulated the Kurdistan Region and its people on the holding of parliamentary elections on October 20 in a calm and peaceful manner.
He further commended the efforts of the Independent High Electoral Commission, supported by the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq, in the preparation for and conduct of these elections.
Moreover, the UN Secretary-General encouraged “all political leaders and segments of society to continue to maintain a peaceful atmosphere and urges political actors to resolve any electoral disputes through established legal channels and to complete the electoral process by forming an inclusive government as soon as possible.”
He reiterated “the commitment of the UN to support Iraq’s efforts to consolidate democratic gains and build a prosperous future for the people of Iraq.”

Earlier on Sunday, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani said he “hope that the existence of a new, active Parliament backed by patriots paves the way for the KRG’s 10th Cabinet as soon as possible to better serve the stability, prosperity, and unity of the Kurdistan Region.”
