Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Sunday commended the success of the sixth parliamentary election process in the Kurdistan Region.
“On this occasion, I congratulate all the citizens of the Kurdistan Region and all its components. I thank the resilience and active participation of the citizens, especially the families of the martyrs,” he wrote in a statement.
“I express my gratitude to the Independent High Electoral Commission of Iraq (IHEC) for conducting and overseeing this process, and I appreciate their efforts,” he said.
I congratulate all the people of the Kurdistan Region on the success of our sixth parliamentary elections. Thank you for your patience and commitment.

“The participation of a large number of citizens was affected by technical issues, which remains a concern for us. Therefore, we must make serious efforts in future elections to address these challenges and ensure the voting rights of every citizen are fully upheld,” he added.
Many voters have reported that the voting machines could not read their fingerprints and as a result were not able to vote.
According to the preliminary results, the Kurdistan Democratic Party won the highest number of votes in the Kurdistan Region.
The Shafaq news agency quoted IHEC officials, stating that the preliminary election results, covering both special and general voting, would be released within 24 hours.
These initial, partial results cannot be contested. After the announcement, the Board of Commissioners will process complaints, conduct a comprehensive vote count, and distribute parliamentary seats. Once final results are confirmed and appeals resolved, the Board will formally ratify the results.
Prime Minister Barzani also thanked the internal security forces and international observers for their support in facilitating the elections.
