On August 12, a delegation led by Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Minister of Peshmerga Affairs Shoresh Ismail visited the First Support Forces Command, which received a number of howitzer cannons from the United States on August 6.
They were welcomed by Lieutenant General Sihad Barzani, Commander of the First Support Forces Command.
According to a press release by the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs (MoPA), the purpose of the visit was to closely assess the command’s operations and needs.
During the visit, Minister Ismail and his delegation toured several peshmerga checkpoints and bases in the area.
During the meeting Minister Ismail emphasized the important role the First Support Forces played during combat against ISIS and affirmed his support for the command’s personnel.

On August 6, the U.S. Consulate General in Erbil announced that they had handed over several lightweight 105 mm howitzers to the First and Second Support Forces.
During the ceremony, MoPA Chief of Staff Issa Ozer also underlined that the peshmerga forces continue to need the support of the U.S.-led coalition in terms of weapons, logistical support, and training.
