BCF and Partners Launch School Renovation and Solar Projects

The Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF) in a press conference on July 1 announced two projects to renovate 50 schools in the Kurdistan Region and to provide solar electricity to 10 schools in Erbil Governorate.

The projects will be carried out with support of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Ministry of Education and in partnership with LDS Charities, The Stirling Foundation, and Dutch Flower Foundation.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was also signed between BCF President Musa Ahmad and KRG Minister of Education Alan Hama Saeed.

“The BCF has paid great attention to education since its establishment and there has been no year without an effective project in all sectors,” Ahmad said.

“We are proud to continue to serve education, which has been one of the main areas of activity of the BCF, and we have always been guided by Chairman of the BCF Founding Board Masrour Barzani to pay great attention to that part.”

So far, the BCF has allocated about 8 billion Iraqi dinars through its partners for the renovation of schools, providing stationery supplies and other educational needs.

“Today we will sign the MoU to repair 50 schools, including some of the schools in the Kirkuk and Nineveh governorates, while providing 60 amperes of electricity to 10 schools through solar energy, bringing the total number of schools in the Kurdistan Region that are using solar energy to 63,” Minister Saeed said.

Moreover, he stated that KRG Prime Minister Barzani has agreed to “provide more than 4 billion Iraqi dinars to provide solar power to 72 more schools.”
