Acting U.S. Consul General (ACG) in Erbil Pamela Hack visited a number of cultural sites in the Kurdistan Region, the U.S. Consulate General in Erbil posted on X on June 13.

ACG Hack visited the Tomb of Prophet Nahum and the Rabban Hormizd Monastery in Alqosh, and the Yezidi Lalish Temple.

“The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad has contributed $1M to fund Nahum Tomb project to help safeguard history and revitalize local economy,” the U.S. Consulate General in Erbil said in a post on X.

“The ACG underscored US commitment to supporting Iraq’s component communities.”

Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on June 3 visited the Yezidi Lalish Temple to show his support to the Yezidi community.

Additionally, during her May 10 visit to the Lalish Temple, U.S. Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights Uzra Zeya called on Baghdad to “address concerns over the role of militias in areas liberated from ISIS such as Sinjar, the Nineveh Plain, and the homelands of other components of Iraqi society.” 

The Yezidi genocide perpetrated by ISIS in August 2014 in Sinjar resulted in the deaths of thousands of people, with many more being displaced to internally displaced person camps in the Kurdistan Region.
