On June 11, Ankawa District Mayor Ramy Noori Syawish told Kurdistan Chronicle that Ankawa had become the first administrative unit in Erbil to earn ISO certification, which was awarded by the international firm Bureau Veritas.
“With the digitalization of processes, visitors to our directorate will experience less waiting time. They will spend a maximum of 15 to 20 minutes to retrieve and record files, reducing the time required for such tasks,” Mayor Syawish said.
“For project execution and service delivery, we will adhere strictly to established standards and public priorities, eliminating room for personal interests,” he added.
Moreover, the Ankawa District Directorate aims to launch several online services through applications by early 2025.
“This is another initiative, aligned with the Ninth Cabinet’s agenda, that focuses on reducing bureaucracy and improving interactions with the public through digitalization.”
In order to receive ISO certification, the management system of the Ankawa District Directorate was audited by the Bureau Veritas Certification Holding SAS-UK Branch and found to be in accordance with its standards.
The scope of the Ankawa District Directorate’s services includes the administration of Ankawa residents, market price control, communication with other directorates for development and improvement, renting residential units, issuance and renewal of occupational licenses, communicating with citizens to monitor and solve their problems, and developing plans in accordance with the government’s vision and initiatives.
The certification expires on May 7, 2027.
Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani declared Ankawa a new district in 2021.
During a press conference, Governor of Erbil Omed Khoshnaw congratulated Ankawa District on its recent milestone in enhancing services for the “beloved people of Ankawa.” He also emphasized the significance the Ninth Cabinet places on serving the people of Ankawa.
