Kurdistan Rugby Festival to Be Held in Late April

The third annual Kurdistan Rugby Festival will be held on April 26, 2024, at the Kurdistan Rugby Pitch in Erbil’s Ankawa district and will feature food, drinks, music, and dance.

“Kurdistan Rugby Festival stands as a pivotal event for the Kurdistan Rugby Team, ensuring its continued operation and longevity,” Hiwa Faridun Jwanroyi, Rugby Developer at Kurdistan Rugby Team, told Kurdistan Chronicle.

“This fundraising event plays a crucial role in sustaining the team by funding various essential needs, from the maintenance of the rugby pitch and greenery to the procurement of  workout equipment and jerseys, and participation fees for international tournaments,” he added.

The festival will invite potential investors, collaborators, non-governmental organizations, and prominent community figures.

“The festival also offers a platform for fans and supporters to express their appreciation and support firsthand, which serves as a significant motivational boost for the team members,” he added.

“Additionally, it provides an occasion to celebrate the team’s annual achievements and milestones. Last year, we marked our 10th anniversary, while this year we are celebrating our recent successes in the Jordan and Dubai 7s tournaments. The Kurdistan Rugby Festival is a celebration of the resilience and triumphs of our team and our community.”

The Kurdistan Rugby Team was established in 2013 and has played a crucial role in promoting the sport in the Kurdistan Region.

The Kurdistan Rugby Team also participated in the Dubai 7s international social tournament in 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2021.

“The Kurdistan Rugby Team has fostered connections that enable Kurdish players to participate in regional and international competitions,” Ayar Rasool, a producer of short films and documentaries, told Kurdistan Chronicle in June last year.
